Introducing Grades 4 & 5 Visual Arts Printing Projects

Introducing the fabulous prints of the 4th and 5th grade artists here at DES!

We have spent several weeks preparing and printing our shape and line designs. Students have been introduced to the process of print making using multiple colored inks, brayers, stylus, styrofoam plates and a layering technique.

On Day 1 & 2: Students created a very simple yet unique line and shape design. We learned how to transfer our designs to a styrofoam plate using a tracing technique.

On Day 3: All students watched a demo and worked on their first print, black ink on white paper. We also talked about the drying rack and keeping our work space clean and dry.

On Day 4: Students created two additional prints. This time they chose their own color paper and ink. Students had the choice of light and dark papers, as well as white, red, yellow, blue, green and brown inks. We discussed color application and which would show and which wouldn't.

On Day 5 & 6: Students had the chance to experiment with the layering technique. They were asked to carefully cut out their three shapes and reprint on top of their initial print, but this time with a different color. At this point students were really able to play with color application and color placement. They loved the process and were amazed with their results. Great job Grade 4 and Grade 5!

Here are a few finished pieces from our 4th and 5th grade artists! The following artists are from Mrs. Auger and Mrs. Brozo's fifth grade class and Mrs. Woupio's 4th grade class. When we complete our prints, they will be on display outside the art and music room.

Wow... so AWESOME!!!

Nice Job!!

How Neat!!
