Square 1 Art Update!

Dear Douglas Elementary and Primary School Families,

Thank you so much for participating in the Square 1 Art fundraiser!  Your generosity does not go unnoticed.
Not only has your order helped the Art Department at both schools, but it has also contributed to boosting the self-esteem of your children by allowing them to see their very own artwork printed on personalized keepsakes!  What a great way to cherish those childhood memories forever!
Thank you so very much for your educational support!
If you missed the deadline, no worries you can still order online! It's not too late to order! DES and DPS can still benefit from your order. Shop online at www.square1art.com/shop. You may also call Square 1 Art Customer Care at 888-332-3294 to order by phone. Your child's art access number is needed for both online and phone orders.

Introducing Grades 4 & 5 Visual Arts Printing Projects

Introducing the fabulous prints of the 4th and 5th grade artists here at DES!

We have spent several weeks preparing and printing our shape and line designs. Students have been introduced to the process of print making using multiple colored inks, brayers, stylus, styrofoam plates and a layering technique.

On Day 1 & 2: Students created a very simple yet unique line and shape design. We learned how to transfer our designs to a styrofoam plate using a tracing technique.

On Day 3: All students watched a demo and worked on their first print, black ink on white paper. We also talked about the drying rack and keeping our work space clean and dry.

On Day 4: Students created two additional prints. This time they chose their own color paper and ink. Students had the choice of light and dark papers, as well as white, red, yellow, blue, green and brown inks. We discussed color application and which would show and which wouldn't.

On Day 5 & 6: Students had the chance to experiment with the layering technique. They were asked to carefully cut out their three shapes and reprint on top of their initial print, but this time with a different color. At this point students were really able to play with color application and color placement. They loved the process and were amazed with their results. Great job Grade 4 and Grade 5!

Here are a few finished pieces from our 4th and 5th grade artists! The following artists are from Mrs. Auger and Mrs. Brozo's fifth grade class and Mrs. Woupio's 4th grade class. When we complete our prints, they will be on display outside the art and music room.

Wow... so AWESOME!!!

Second grade artists worked on leaf prints and tissue paper designs. We discussed warm vs. cool colors and applied tissue paper using a watered down glue method that replicated a stained glass effect.
Day 1 and 2: Students worked on applying the tissue paper.

On Day 3 students worked on creating the black leaf prints using black Tempera paint and leaf stamps. Lastly, on Day 4 students glued their finished work to a frame and added a series of line designs both around their leaves and on their frames to compliment their artwork.

Here are some finished Leaf Designs! They look Amazing!! Nice job Second Grade!
